Skytrain: Sapperton Station

New Westminster
British Columbia

A view down the platform of Sapperton Station.

A view down the platform of Sapperton Station. A view of the HSS tubular frame during construction. The modular tubular frame for the roof used "butterfly" like sections. End view of the nearly completed section. A view down the centre line of columns that sits between the trains, during construction. Construction view of the station. The majority of the station used round HSS tubes. Detail view of the central connection of the butterfly roof to the centre columns. End view of the station taken from the train tracks. View of central connection. View looking down on the station from the upper entry level platform. The "energy wheel" in the centre was part of the public art commitment. Not all of the steel frame used round tubes. Some of the upper level framing used standard sections. View across the platform, morning light streaming in.

Sapperton Station

Sapperton Station is the first station along the Millennium Line when approached from New Westminster. The unique structure uses round HSS members to create butterfly like trusses that cover the platform area. Although the parts of the structure are highly articulated and more challenging to fabricate, a high degree of repetition makes for some economy in production of the parts.
