SSEF Case Studies in Steel Construction: Volume 2 - The Vancouver Millennium Skytrain Stations

Description

Before construction the stations for the new Vancouver Millennium Line, the public was polled. Their common complaint was that the station design for the Expo Line, opened for Expo '86, was too repetitive. It was decided to hold a competition for the stations for the new line, and a series of 12 innovative designs was chosen. The stations use a high level of Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel, in concert with an exposition of native BC structural timber and glulam. The result has been a distinctive line of stations - each bringing indentity and character to it surrounding neighbourhood - and for remarkably little extra cost!
